The Doctor Ro Thanksgiving Concert is a vibrant celebration where jazz, gospel, liturgical dance, soloist performances, and inspirational speaking come together to uplift the heart and strengthen community resilience. This annual gathering brings families, leaders, churches, and partners into a shared space of gratitude, artistry, and hope.
This year’s concert features an exceptional lineup of acclaimed performers, including jazz guitarist Bemol Telfort, classical vocalist Dr. Nancy Alexis‑Calixte, Haitian Gospel artist Julien Janvier, vocalist Carnide Thermidor, trumpetist Jonathan Laurince, and other distinguished musicians and soloists. Their collective artistry creates a rich tapestry of sound—blending jazz sophistication, gospel power, and expressive liturgical movement. More than a musical event, the concert is a moment of communal thanksgiving: a place where creativity meets faith, where stories of resilience are honored, and where the power of music helps renew the spirit. Bemol Telfort
Bemol Jean Telfort was born to play music. Consolation, his first solo project, consists of original tunes that he composed and arranged himself, preserving his distinctive sound.
Bemol has written more than sixty songs and performed on more than fifty albums in various capacities. His live performance credits include Guy Dirosier, Gerard Duperrvil, Ansy Derose, Roger Colas and Max Pickion. He is an accomplished arranger and composer with credits too numerous to list. Bemol performs throughout South Florida and the Caribbean.
As a child growing up in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Bemol hungered to play and create his own music. At the age of six, he began to play the congas, and at eight, he learned body percussion when he could not afford a drum set. At the ripe age of ten, he made his own guitar out of a gallon jug, some wood, and nylon that he borrowed from his uncle. That guitar was quite different from the regular ones and he tuned it and played it in his own way.
The first time Bemol attempted to play a "traditional" guitar, he needed assistance to find the C major scale. He was left-handed, and all the guitars he created himself were done with that in mind. "Nobody had ever seen anyone play like that" he remarked. Bemol also purchased every guitar book that he could get his hands on. A passion became his guide as he taught himself to play his homemade guitar and congas, and transformed his own body into a living, breathing percussion instrument. Sometimes, when playing the guitar, he gives off a conga-like impression, as in the song "Solitude," for example.
He continued to hone his guitar skills and created melodies unlike any other. At the age of fourteen he became the leader of a Christian Band that lasted for seven years and recorded four albums. While at home one day, he heard the soulful sounds of George Benson playing the guitar. After hearing George Benson, Bemol would never be the same. He then started spending a lot of time teaching himself Jazz and impressed people by playing body music with only his hands, feet and body.
Bemol decided it was time for him to leave his home, come to the United States, and set his lifelong dreams in motion. When he arrived, he brought Rabordaille (Roots) music, a Haitian street sound that had never been refined. He added other instruments, such as the guitar, and composed the drum beat. He has created his own style and calls it Rabordialle or Roots music. Another big influence on his musical style was Wes Montgomery. He has combined the styles of these Jazz greats as a guide to refine his own unique sounds. Bemol admits that his music has a certain amount of sadness and melancholy woven into his complex melodies. In "Sadness Is My Best Friend", he is a consummate perfectionist never quite satisfied, but always reaching for greater heights.
In 1990, Bemol went to music school. As a self-taught musician, he sought to correct mistakes and learn techniques to improve his playing ability. He is now an accomplished musician, guitarist, bassist, conga player, composer, arranger and bandleader. Once crazy to be like Benson or Wes Montgomery, he came to realize that there could never be another Benson or Wes, finally he has found his own style.
Dr. Nancy Alexis-Calixte, DPM
Dr. Nancy Alexis‑Calixte is a distinguished classical vocalist whose musical journey reflects years of disciplined study, artistic refinement, and heartfelt expression. Though widely recognized in her professional life as a physician and community leader, Nancy has cultivated a parallel path in the performing arts, developing a vocal style marked by clarity, warmth, and emotional resonance.
Her musical foundation began with classical vocal training, where she explored sacred repertoire, art songs, and lyrical works that shaped her interpretive style. Over the years, she has performed in liturgical settings, cultural celebrations, and community concerts, offering solo works that highlight her controlled technique and expressive delivery.
Dr. Nancy’s artistry has become a cherished part of MCE Magazine and AAA Resilience events, where her performances bring a sense of reverence, cultural pride, and spiritual uplift. Whether interpreting classical pieces, inspirational selections, or culturally rooted melodies, she approaches each performance with intentionality, grace, and deep connection to her audience.
Today, Dr. Nancy continues to blend her gifts—medicine, mentorship, and music—into a holistic expression of service. Her musical journey stands as a testament to the power of art to heal, inspire, and unite communities.
Julien Janvier
Julien Janvier is one of the most enduring and influential voices in Haitian gospel music, carrying more than 40 years of ministry across Haiti, the Caribbean, and the North American diaspora. His journey began in the 1980s when he joined the renowned Groupe Souffle Divin, performing the iconic song “Kombyen tan Ou rete”, a piece that shaped an entire generation of Haitian Christians.
Born in Bainet, Haiti, Julien discovered his passion for worship after spending two formative years in Port‑au‑Prince. From there, his ministry expanded steadily, marked by a deep commitment to singing for the glory of God, often with his signature classical guitar in hand.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Julien collaborated widely within Haiti’s gospel community before launching a successful solo career in Miami, where he became a pillar of the Haitian‑American Christian music scene. His discography includes beloved songs such as “Doux Jésus, Je T’aime,” “Prezans Ou,” “À Tes Pieds,” “Retounen,” “Sonje,” “Temwayaj,” and “Non Li Ma Prale (Live).”
In 2013, he released the celebrated album “Best of Julien Janvier,” a collection of 13 worship tracks in French and Creole that solidified his place as a leading voice in gospel music.
Julien’s influence continues today through his active digital ministry, including his YouTube channel Julien Janvier Official (@GouMuzik1), where he reaches a growing global audience. He is consistently ranked among the Top 30 most popular Haitian gospel artists on YouTube, demonstrating his lasting impact across generations.
In April 2026, the Haitian gospel world gathered in Fort Lauderdale for a historic tribute concert titled “Tout le monde chante Julien Janvier,” celebrating his 40 years of ministry. Artists, worship leaders, and fans honored his legacy as a foundational figure whose music continues to inspire worshippers worldwide.
Today, Julien Janvier stands as a living testament to resilience, devotion, and artistic excellence—an artist whose voice has carried hope, healing, and faith for more than four decades.
